Here Comes the Sun

This is a compensated review courtesy of BlogHer and Capri-Sun Sunrise

Capri-Sun Sunrise is Making Every Day Better for moms and kids -- and they're going to make one lucky reader's day even better with a $250 VISA gift card! Read on to find out how to enter.
Is it morning already? Mornings are not my strong suit. My kids are up with the sun, but I stay in bed until I absolutely have to get up. I jump out of bed between 7:15 and 7:20, get dressed, get The Pea up and dressed, get breakfast, pack everyone's lunch, and walk The Pea to school. We have to be out the door by 8:00AM, so it's all a rush rush rush! My morning routine is like a finely-tuned precision instrument: throw a cog in it (like discovering we've run out of juice or realizing that The Pea didn't do her homework the night before), and everything falls apart. So I gladly agreed to try and review Capri-Sun's great new option for streamlining my kids' breakfast: Sunrise, a new breakfast juice drink . We buy Capri-Sun's 100% Juice and Roaring Waters drinks all the time, so my kids didn't need to be asked twice to serve as volunteer taste-testers. They quickly slurped down one of each of the 3 flavors -- Orange Wake Up, Tropical Morning, and Berry Tangerine Morning -- gave me the thumbs up, and proceeded to benchpress their own weight in barbells made out of Knex. Okay, I'm kidding, but with all-natural ingredients, added calcium and 100% daily Vitamin C in each serving, Sunrise will send them off to a good start and a great day. I'm not kidding about the thumbs-up part, though. My kids loved all 3 flavors (my personal favorite is the Orange Wake Up). And since Sunrise comes in prepacked fun pouches, The Pea can get her own drink in the mornings instead of wasting precious time waiting for me to finish unloading the dishwasher before I can pour her some juice. When my morning routine gets messed up, less fuss means less stress! Speaking of that pouch, yes, the eco-friendliness of disposable drink pouches is an issue, but I have no problem with enjoying the convenience of pre-packed individual servings during the most hectic mornings. They're also perfect for field trips or outdoor summer daycamps or other occasions when my kids leave their lunchboxes behind and we can't ever get them back. Losing and replacing a $17 reusable aluminum bottle four or five times a year isn't going to do the earth or my pocketbook any good! Besides, now that Capri-Sun has partnered with Terracycle.net, you can actually recycle all your Capri-Sun pouches, and earn some cash for your kids' school in the process. How great is that for minimizing your family's eco-footprint and teaching your kids some valuable lessons at the same time? Yes, Capri-Sun Sunrise is Making Every Day Better for moms and kids, and guess what? The good folks at BlogHer and Capri-Sun Sunrise are going to make someone's day even better, because they have given me a $250 Visa giftcard to give away to one lucky Bonggamom Finds reader! Here's how to enter: Leave me a comment below and share YOUR morning routine tips -- I need all the advice I can get on how to speed up (or calm down) the mornings in our household! Don't forget to leave a valid email address so I can contact you. This must be completed to enter the giveaway, and done before any additional entries become valid.
I made this yummy breakfast drink using some yogurt, 3 pouches of Orange Wake Up, bananas and strawberries. It's a weekend-only treat! If you can figure out a way I can find the time to have this for breakfast on schooldays, leave your comment here. You'll earn my undying love and a chance to earn a $250 Visa giftcard.

Go to bed on time and not staying up too late - it's the only chance I have to get up on time. If I oversleep, all bets are off for the day.

I get up early and organize myself before anyone else is up. This makes me calmer and of more help to my kids. I prepare school lunches the night before and my kids pick out their clothes the night before. This way there isn't as much chaos getting dressed. I put breakfast choices out and they are expected to pick one out and put their dishes away themselves! Thanks for a great give-away, Jamie.

I make sure that we have everything laid out the night before. I also put important reminders into my iphone and set ringers for them 2 days and 2 hours in advance. That usually keeps me on track.

I always set out clothing the night before and make sure my daughter's backpack is ready for school during the week.

Also, if you like making smoothies, buy bulk bags of frozen berries. They're already cut and cleaned and ready to pop into the blender. You can even measure them out into individual servings to make it even faster to dump the ingredients and blend in the mornings.

Luckily, my husband usually does mornings... but I put out the bowls of cereal and milk as soon as the kids get up. That helps. And I get up about 2 hours before them. That REALLY helps!

Hey, why not use a can of mixed tropical fruit in your smoothies? It would be faster than messing with all the fresh fruit. I know it works well with yogurt.
Definately we have to set things up the night before...of course we still end up looking for a shoe...or the car keys!

Ha, ha, I'm a stay-in-bed-as-late-as-I-can person too :). My only advice would be to prep as much as you can the night before--fill juice/water bottles, put snacks in containers then straight into lunch boxes, put spoons and napkins into lunch boxes.... And yes, yummy homemade breakfasts are on weekends only :)

I raised 4 children on my own from the time they were toddlers so I can tell you the one thing that made the difference for us was that every night I had the children lay out their clothes and shoes for the next day. Then we would all go to the kitchen and lay out the breakfast service (bowls, spoons-whatever breakfast was going to be the next day). Then I would pack their lunches the night before, they would get their baths and a tuck for bed with a story. By morning they were clean, rested and knew what clothes they were going to wear. Breakfast was usually a whirl of cereal/toast and eggs or whatever and out the door we went with each child carrying their lunch bag.

Michelle @Flying Giggles on April 29, 2009 at 10:43 PM said...

At night, lay out your clothes for the next day, especially your kids clothes. Don't forget the socks and shoes. If not you may spend 10 minutes looking for the lost shoe. In the AM, 10 minutes is a long time to waste. Have your diaper bag/purse ready to go along with your keys and cell phone so you are not looking for them in the morning!

We used to have an awful time in the mornings; we were always late. So much that my daughter ended up getting a detention because of it. We finally streamlined the whole process. The night before we make sure we have the outfit on the dresser and the shoes right there (finding a missing shoe used to eat up a bunch of time in the morning). All papers are signed and placed in the bookbag which is parked right by the front door. If it's a lunch packing day, I do it the night before and I have a note that I tape to the front door so we don't forget it when we're walking out the door. Cereal, pop tarts and juice boxes are the weekly breakfast feast because they're quick and easy. Showers are the night before. So far, we haven't been late again.

Children thrive on routine. Which starts when they are infants.
My daughters (6&3) go to bed every night at 8pm. Sometimes they even ask to go to bed earlier! When they go to bed at the same time every night they tend to wake up in the mornings at the same time.
I get up and do my things and then the girls wake up and we get things going. They know the routine. Breakfast, get dressed, brush teeth, comb hair and any thing else that might be pertinent for the day ahead.

Anonymous said...

The best thing I do is to get up at least an hour before the kids. The time to clear my head, drink my tea, and get organized makes everything go sooo much more smoothly. Also, have as much done ahead of time as possible. Lay out the clothes you're all going to wear the night before, etc. I usually have breakfast burritos in the freezer for quick microwave breakfasts, too.

The best thing to do is lay out clothes the night before and do everything you can the night before like packing lunch etc. Then make sure you get up immediately when the alarm clock goes off to keep on schedule. Then just try to do things as efficiently as possible when you are half asleep and you should get everything done...barring any emergencies. That is what we do.

I don't really have any specific tips, since my days of getting kids up and off to school are long past. My girls were comparatively easy to get moving, and because of the age difference, I didn't have several really young ones to get ready at the same time. Best thing was to make sure they got to bed at a reasonable time, and try to have everything they needed to take with them together near the door.

I've found that as long as the rooms are cleaned and clear of clutter, the boys move about better the next morning. They lay in their bed for 20 minutes reading and fall asleep easily because of this. In the morning, I open their bedroom doors and our golden retriever jumps on their beds, waking them with kisses. This wakes them very quickly - think 'doggy breath' ;)

I just have to get on my grandson about brushing his teeth longer than 3 seconds. Thank you so much!

The kids go to bed early, clothes are picked out, lunches packed, homework reviewed and done. They take turns helping with breakfast. This doesn't always go so smoothly, but most of the time it works well.

Also no TV/Wii/computer/Phone before school - it causes them to slow down and argue too much.

Whenever I feel like my mornings are too manic and rushed and hectic and stressful, I pick a day and go to bed early. Then I set the alarm and get up about 4:30 am, get showered and dressed, etc. and get in the car and instead of going to work I go fishing. An hour or two of fishing before I go into work and nothing bothers me all day. Taking the time to go out to a lake and hear the loons and the geese and the ducks relaxes me no end. It's even better if I actually catch something!

Just do what you can ahead of time. Also for breakfast make waffle mix the night before and then just stick it next to the waffle maker in the morning. Or do breakfast smoothies: yogurt frozen fruit and cane sugar mix it up and delish!

My best advice is to go to bed early. I'm always tempted to stay up late reading or surfing the internet when it's quiet in the house and the kids are in bed, but that makes mornings so much harder. Getting enough sleep is key for me to be more productive throughout the day.

The thing that saved me in the morning is deciding that I have to get up before everyone else. I get up first, shower, get breakfast ready and then get the kids up. It means I have to get up at 5:45, but the rest of my day goes so much better when I am not starting out so far behind.

Wow. I don't know if I should post this. My morning routine is pretty mellow. Toast and jam. Some decaf coffee. Some music on the radio. I lead a pretty stress-free life. Nothing much happens that bothers me. Then I get to work and all my co-workers tell me about their problems and their kids. I work with a bunch of drama queens (male and female).

A little tiny tip to hurry time up in the morning: I wash my face in the shower instead of doing it after. I put on my face wash before I shampoo, let it sit as I wash my hair, let that sit as I wash my body and then I rinse each other one by one!

As a mother of 47 years old and now grandmother I'll pass on the morning routine to you.

Do as much as humanly possible the night before. Lay out there clothes or make them decide and lay them out. Get their lunches ready and packed. have them keep their shoes and backpacks in the same place all the time. Sign any papers the night before. Fix your coffee pot to start before you do in the morning. Get up one hour before they do to have coffee and relax before waking them.

Bed on time, alarms set for the morning. The biggest help is knowing what everyone will wear and knowing what breakfast and lunch will be. That helps a lot when packing the lunches and making breakfast - no guessing or anything.

On a note related to this post, I will be checking out the new Capri Sun line. We like the 100% juice pouches, but tend to shy away from the sweetener added lines. If this is 100% juice, it may be worth trying. Thanks for the tip.

Going to bed on time is a must, no matter what. If I go to bed late and get up late, the whole day is ruined. Setting out everything ahead of time really helps to. Even setting up what lunches need to be packed with what, this relieves alot of the rush.

The kids get tired of cereal every morning and love french toast. One weekend a month I make 4 loaves (5 kids) of french toast, let them cool and put them 2 at a time in baggies. Put them in the freezer and when they want french toast instead of cereal they take them out and pop them in the toaster. Easy easy easy and you cant tell the difference from fresh made. Ha! :) All while enjoying my first cup of coffee, then I start breakfast, get the kids up and they eat I'll clean up. Johnny gets dressed for school and is out the door, and Miss Pea takes a bath and plays until nap time. It works for us. The smoothie sounds yummy, I'm going to have to give that a try!

Having a dog is the best tip to get going!

Our faithful dog wakes up with me,
Alarm goes off and so does he!
I send him off to wake up the gang,
He jumps up and licks them... and tail wags with a bang!
No one can resist him and stay in bed...
He just won't let them, keeps playing on end,
And soon everyone is on their way ,
He gives me a lick, as if to say...
All done, alright!
Can't wait til they come home tonight!

Everyone needs a dog!

Hello. That does sound like a hectic morning. I let my kids have something they love for breakfast, and tell they can't have it if they are not out of bed by 7am. The usuals are celery with peanut butter and raisins, and cinnamon toast crunch cereal. My kids are always hungry, so if they aren't out of bed by 7am, they get to watch the other two eat their favorites while all they get is a banana! Works every time (well almost).

I'm definitely not a morning person, but what helps me the most is making sure I get enough sleep. For me, that's at least 8 hours. I do everything I possibly can the night before, so that I don't feel rushed in the morning, when I'm cranky and groggy. Truth be told, though, what helps me speed up the most in the morning is having an empty house-- nobody else to trip over or share the bathroom with-- and that's probably not an option for you!

Our morning routine is fun. We start by playing together, enjoying homemade breakfast, and prayer as a family. I've had the kind of routine where I tried to be as quick as possible. I often wondered what I did with all that time I saved. Now there is less time but more quality memories, healthy food and happy hearts! fun.mom.cheratgmaildotcom

As cliche as it sounds, the best way for my family to get going in the morning is to get everything ready the night before. Things never go as smoothly if I wait until the morning to make lunches or pick out clothes.

The other thing was to let go of the clothes wars. My kids are 6 and 8 and I let them pick out their own clothes. As long as they're dressed appropriately for the weather and within school dress code, who cares if Sarah is wearing a pink shirt and red pants? The teachers know she dressed herself.

My fifteen year old son's dad wakes him up after he is out of the bathroom and he takes his shower. Meanwhile I'm making sure that his lunch and phone make it into his backpack.

By the time he is out of the shower and eating, I'm taking mine. And by the time I sit down to eat, the two of them are walking out the door.

Christina - xristya@rock.com - I actually find that preparing the night before, even if you're dead tired, is better on the heart (tension, tension!) than scurrying around in the morning. No matter how tired you are in the morning, if you know that you can jump into clothes that you've laid out, have dishes on the table and anything you need to take with you all set up, once you actually force yourself to get up it's a lot, lot better. For many years I did a local TV program on the arts where my day was NEVER done, there was always something left to do even if you'd just worked for 18 hours, and I learned that one - about setting everything up - very quickly while doing it! Good luck, and thanks for the wonderful giveaway!

Not a morning person by any stretch of the imagination...just ask my co-workers! Heh.

What I do is try to do as much as I can the night before. I bathe the night before, I prepare my lunch, set out clothes, etc all the night before. I also make sure that my keys, ID, money are all in one spot, right next to the door so I can just grab them on my way out and I don't have to think to myself, "Ok, do I have this? Do I have that?" and do that running around dance.

I don't have kids but I have pets and I spend the first 30 minutes every morning just feeding and cleaning up after them. And they don't lift a finger (paw) to help out at all.

Then I have just enough time to get myself ready to get to work. If I did not take care of so much the night before, I would always be late for work or forget something as again, I'm not really awake when I first get up.

- Wake up 1 hour before my child (although she wakes up at unpredictable times)
- Shower and get everything for me ready except clothes (those go on last in case of messes!)
- Make lunches, breakfasts
- Wake up daughter, get her washed up and dressed
- Get dressed
